Professional Bio
Ava Watson is an incoming Senior at The University of Georgia studying Entertainment and Media in the Grady College of Journalism. With her father and sister both UGA graduates, Ava practically came out of the womb shouting “Go dawgs!”. She is ecstatic to be continuing her education at such an esteemed and prideful school.
With a keen eye for visual storytelling, Ava is carving her path towards a future as a cinematographer and film director, fueled by her passion for film and her extensive experience directing short films. With Minors in both American Sign Language and Design and Media Studies plus a certificate in New Media, Ava is able to make the most of her time at UGA. Through her ASL studies, she was able to study abroad in France and learn parts of Langue de Signes while developing her skills in ASL and learning more about the Deaf community. Meanwhile, her New Media certificate has taught her the inner workings of web development and kept her up to date with emerging technologies.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Ava enjoys giving back to The University of Georgia community. Last year, Ava was selected as one of five student coordinators on UGA’s Dawg Camp Leadership Team. There, she trained 45 camp counselors for the renowned extended orientation program at UGA catering to 300 incoming students during the summer. Ava loved seeing her fellow students grow while guiding new faces through their university journey. She has since stepped down to pass the leadership to the next generation of members and has since pursued video creation. Ava is excited to learn more about social media and videography through this internship and cannot wait for what lies in the future.
