In 2023, our team at ApartmentsFor embarked on an exciting venture to adapt to the evolving preferences of our target audience – students at the universities we serve.
According to Her Campus research, 40% of Gen Z prefers TikTok as a search engine over Google. Our team recognized a decline in Google users and decided to explore new horizons and connect with our audience on the booming platform of TikTok.
With the goal of our ApartmentsFor brands reaching more students, we hired current students at each university we serve as our Social Media Representatives to spearhead our TikTok presence. The focus was not just on being present but on finding a unique TikTok voice and creating content that resonates with the local community, students, and renters seeking apartments.
One notable success was an advertisement filmed on the UF campus for Swamp Rentals, which garnered a staggering 97,100 views. This demonstrated the potential reach of TikTok and helped push traffic to our website at the end of the ’23 leasing season, delivering qualified student leads to our student housing partners on a mission to fill their remaining beds for Fall move-in.
Alyandra, our Social Media Representative for Swamp Rentals, has been instrumental in crafting content that speaks directly to UF students, showcasing Swamp Rentals as the go-to resource for finding apartments in Gainesville, FL. In just the last 60 days, Swamp Rentals experienced remarkable growth on TikTok, accumulating over 50,000 views and witnessing a remarkable 400%+ increase in followers and engagement. Alyandra shared her thoughts on the experience, stating:
"Since starting at Swamp Rentals, I've truly gotten to put myself out there and gain the confidence to undertake activities and assignments I never thought I'd be doing. I love how much this internship has pushed me out of my comfort zone and brought me closer to so many like-minded and successful women. I believe this was an essential step in my career path and would recommend this to other UF students."
